For AX 2012 R3 development you can only use Visual Studio 2013 ie. for VS projects, SSRS, or managed code. In previous AX versions it was possible to use higher versions of TFS than the compatible VS version. You just had to install the matching version VS Team Explorer component to monitor/manage your source control. I have not tried 2015 yet, but there should be no problem if the underlying API did not considerably change.
