I think it depends a bit on what skills you already have as a developer. If you're already well versed in object oriented programming, say from vb.net, and you have strong SQL skills, then you're ready to grapple with much of what you need to learn for X++ and ERP development in general. However, AX may not be the best environment for cutting your teeth if you have no SQL skills or OOP experience at all, as it's quite deep and complex.
