At AX7 there are only two ways By Packages By Projects axpp files As per Microsoft, we partners or end users, will not have access to production system. We cannot access it using remote desktop. We cannot deploy any code by ourselves. We will send deployable packages to Microsoft and Microsoft will apply it. (This has been told to us, by Microsoft representative at a technical conference) For other servers (Other than production) we may choose any methodology, depending upon situation. If we have to move a ‘whole object’ or ‘multiple objects’, packages are best way. But for cases where we need to move ‘partial object’; we have no more option other than code merge, of course we cannot use package in this case, as it may not override elements of baseline. For updates and hotfixes, I believe Microsoft will provide updates in same way as they did in from CTP7 to CT8. As they have not provided any hotfix and CU(s), so we cannot say what they can change as process. But most likely, offline manual update will be no more there, as it was from legacy cases such as 2012R2 to R3. During a technical conference, people were having doubts and serious concerns, when we came to know that we cannot access Production system by remote desktop. Of course, in some regions, customers are really wild, e.g. a customer may give me a call, “I need Field ABC, on this form right now, it’s very important for me”; now as per current AX7 Service model, I have to tell to customer “you have to wait until Microsoft deploys code.” Not sure, if Microsoft changes, with arrival of On-premises version. But most likely there will be changes.
