While Technical Conference is underway Microsoft made the first version of the new Microsoft Dynamics AX available. You call it RTW , which is short for Release To Web (the old-fashioned term would have been RTM – Release To Manufacturing – which meant that the CDs can be cut). And yes, I was wrong about the date somehow but still the release party (besides the conference that is held in Seattle right now) is at the date I named. Although I’m not at the conference I was able to take a first look at RTW (carrying version no 7.0.1265.3015, platform 7.0.4030.16079) and would like to point out what got my attention at first sight. Menu The menu structure was rethought heavily compared to previous CTP versions. You have a big slider coming in when you use the (slightly relocated) hamburger control and choose a module. The menu is shown more detailed and in more depth now. In my opinion this is a small change but a huge improvement because you get an good overview now which is needed when you use the menu. If you already knew the name of the form you want to navigate to you would have used the search field, of course This is what is looks like now: Personalization The personalization feature was improved heavily and if you right click a form now and click Personalize and Personalize this form there’s a personalization toolbar popping up giving you all kinds of possibilities to make the form yours! PS: Since it is out now I’ll stop prefixing the headlines of my blog posts with AX7 and mark those referring to the older versions instead.
