What other ERP? What is your intention for merging the ledger data? Combine for reporting only? Migrate ledger transactions from one ERP into the other so that all data can be found in one place? I'm sure many responses to your question will involve Management Reporter. The current version is much better than what was available a few years ago. The data mart approach makes it quite fast and keeps it fairly real time. Do not under any circumstances even think about using a consolidation company in AX.
